The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has opened a
specialized training center in fiber optic networks installation, operation and maintenance, at the National
Telecommunication Institute (NTI) premises in Smart Village.
The new center comprises four specialized labs, equipped with the latest tools and advanced technologies, following
the highest global standards in all stages of fiber optic networks installation, operation and maintenance, to
emulate the actual working environment. This includes the Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology lab, for connecting
fiber optics networks to homes; a lab for external site work training; a lab for training on fiber optic networks in
data centers and a test lab.
The ICT Minister, in his speech at the graduation ceremony of the optical fiber networks installation, testing and
maintenance program, underlined that opening the Center reflects the persistence to implement a comprehensive
strategy to build digital Egypt, based on the latest ICTs. This requires the availability of a broad fiber optic
network and qualified human calibers that are capable of establishing, managing and maintaining such network, and
providing after-operation services, in different governorates and cities. This comes within the framework of the
national projects of creating digital systems and building new cities, as well as establishing the New
Administrative Capital.
Moreover, Talaat said that depending on technology only is not sufficient, and that it is important to qualify human
calibers to use, manage and leverage such technologies. He added that the Ministry of Communications and Information
Technology (MCIT) has agreed on establishing training centers specialized in fiber optic technologies, at MCIT
training outlets, in different governorates, to provide young Egyptians, nationwide, the opportunity to join these
training programs. Talaat also expressed his happiness for providing specialized trainings for young Persons with
Disabilities (PwDs).
Furthermore, the ICT Minister granted the training program certificates to 20 trainers who completed the specialized
program, implemented by Corning Optical Communications, to become professional trainers capable of performing
complete training programs at the Center.
The Center is planned to train and qualify over 3,000 specialists of different qualifications and PwDs in this
field, during its first stage. The training lasts for two consecutive weeks, after which trainees get an accredited
certificate, qualifying them for job opportunities in this field, in telecommunication companies in Egypt.
The Center was established in cooperation between the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), the Information
Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and NTI. It comes within the framework of implementing the national
strategy for digital transformation, and the necessary development of infrastructure for boosting Internet speed,
using advanced technology, installing fiber optic networks nationwide, and training specialized calibers on fiber
optic networks installation, operation and maintenance, with the aim to provide more digital services to
citizens.
The opening ceremony was attended by NTI Director Iman Ashour, NTRA Acting Executive President Mustafa Abdul Wahid,
ITIDA CEO Hala El Gohary, MCIT officials, and a number of ICT experts and companies.
