ICT Minister Meets Entrepreneurs in TIEC Incubation at Assiut University

Assiut, 25 August 2019 - The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, Assiut Governor Gamal Nour El-Din and Chairwoman of the Information Technology Institute (ITI) Heba Saleh, have met with President of Assiut University Tarek El Gammal at ITI premises in Assiut University.
They discussed enhancing cooperation in capacity building and developing IT skills of students and youth in Upper Egypt, in line with the ICT industry requirements.
The meeting was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information at Assiut University Taiseer Hassan, Dean of the Faculty of Science Abdel-Hamid Abu-Eladab, and a number of officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT).
This was during the ICT Minister’s visit to Assiut to open and explore a number of ICT projects in New Assiut technology park, and follow up on the developments in MCIT programs for capacity building, honing youth skills, in Upper Egypt, in different technology areas, and creating decent job vacancies for them.
During the meeting, the areas of cooperation between MCIT and the affiliated training institutes in Assiut University were presented. The aim is to qualify students technologically before graduation to integrate them into the labor market, in light of the global technological developments.
This is achieved through cooperation in qualifying and training faculty, and introducing optional courses for students in third and fourth years, in line with the ICT industry requirements. This is in addition to cooperation to enrich and prepare the specialized structure for electronics industry.
Relevantly, ITI cooperated with the Faculty of Engineering at Assiut University to qualify specialized teachers and prepare a distinct practical training for students.
Moreover, Talaat met with a group of ITI graduates. He listened to their views and ideas, and explored some of the startups that they founded in Assiut, and met with a number of self-employed young people.
The ICT Minister, also, visited the cloud computing center that provides high level technological services for students and researchers in Upper Egypt.
Furthermore, the ICT Minister, Assiut Governor and the CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Hala El Gohary visited an incubation center of the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC) in Assiut University.
The center provides training spaces and capacity building activities, and supports companies work. It can incubate eight startups at a time.
During the visit, Talaat explored a number of incubated startups; entrepreneurs and developers explained their innovative ideas and work plans, based on which they founded the startups. Most startups managed to receive investments, reach customers and fulfill orders of their technology products.
Talaat highlighted that he fully supports creative youth and entrepreneurs, and underlined MCIT eagerness to promote technological innovation among young people.
On the sidelines of the visit, the ICT Minister took a tour in New Assiut technology park to follow up on the work and open a customer service center for Orange. He, also, witnessed the signing of a contract between the Egyptian Silicon Industries Company (SICO) and Silicon Waha, to increase the production capacity of SICO factory.
