The DevOpsDays Cairo conference 2020 took place, on Tuesday, under the auspices of the
Software Engineering Competence Center (SECC) of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).
The event was held online, and was organised in collaboration with DXC Technology, IBM Egypt, and Orange
This year’s edition of DevOpsDays Cairo 2020 took place under the theme “DevOps amid COVID-19”, and comes as part of
the organiser’s endeavours to raise awareness on the latest and most significant trends in information technology
(IT). The conference aims to connect IT companies, developers, and experts in the field, and falls in line with the
Egyptian government’s digital transformation initiative.
The conference was opened by ITIDA Acting CEO Amr Mahfouz and ITIDA Vice President and SECC Chairperson Hossam
In his opening remarks, Mahfouz welcomed the guests, and highlighted that Egypt has passed the digital
transformation test. As a result, it has managed to survive during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, thanks
to the state’s projects and huge investments to upgrade the country’s information and communications technology
Mahfouz added that the world will witness more and more changes, and accordingly new business models will evolve
along with advanced technologies and new automation tools. These will require more cooperation among different
teams, and this is what exactly happens by achieving a true combination of software development and IT operations
The conference features keynotes from a number of local and international experts and professionals in
DevOps Days is a worldwide series of technical conferences that launched its first events in Belgium in 2009,
covering topics in software development, IT infrastructure operations, and the intersection between them.
The DevOps methodology represents the latest technological trends within various institutions, as a set of
revolutionary technical practices and tools. These are designed to enhance communication and interaction between
software developers and IT project management experts. It aims to reduce costs, improve and accelerate productivity,
whilst implementing related processes more reliably and efficiently.
SECC has been providing training services on DevOps methodology and techniques since mid-2017, to raise awareness of
using this methodology among local companies. The services come as part of an integrated system of services provided
by SECC and ITIDA, to improve the efficiency of companies working in the sector or companies and entities that use
ICT in their operations.
This year’s conference sponsors include Giza Systems, Cegedim, Egypt Free and Open Source Software initiative “Egypt
Foss”, alongside the EgyptInnovate platform.
